SKI LESSON & TOUR IN KOREA - Attraction around Alpensia Ski Resort ; The Sheep Farm

Winter is coming ! At the same time, many tourists are coming to Korea !
Because children's winter vacation is very long, parents agonize about where to go.
So, Many of them decide to go to Korea for enjoying ski lesson and ski tour.
That's why I've posted many informations about ski resort like Alpensia ski resort, Yongpyeong ski resort and Vivaldi ski resort.
Truely, taking ski lesson, engoying ski and having fun in ski resort are definetely interesting enough.
However, if the holiday is too long or if some of the group members have trouble with enjoying ski, they need another things to enjoy.

So, today, I post the information of the 'another thing' ; Sheep Farm.
Near from Alpensia & Yongpeong ski resort, there is famous place as 'healing spot'.

This farm grows only sheep and the area is about 200-thousands.
There is big and free parking lot, from there, about 120 m, there is ticket office.

After purchasing the ticket, don't throw away it, because you need it again when you get some
feed to give to sheeps.
The entrance fee is 4,000 KRW for adult & 3,500 KRW for kid.
The running time is from 9am to 5pm.

Beautiful view !
It is better to bring sunglasses because of strong sun light and snow.

The circumference of the farm is only 1.2km, so walk slowly with your lover and family

As I said, you can get the feed by showing the ticket you got from entrance.
And then, give the feed to farm ! Especially, kids love it.

Sometimes, people give up their ski tour because of their young baby or old grandparents.
But don't give up. There are many other things you can enjoy altogather. I will introduce them :)

And... most of all....^^

SKI TOUR in KOREA @ VIVALDI RESORT - Accommodation of Vivaldi Ski Resort

Before, I posted the advantages of Vivaldi ski resort. Remember?
Today, I want to focus on intruducing about accommodations of Vivaldi.
Although many foreign tourists desperately want to experience or take a ski lesson, they have trouble with deciding to go to ski resort because it is so difficult for them to take up their quarters.
In fact, the longer you have time for skiing, the better skier you may become.
So, that's why I want to let you know these informations.

Accommodations is one of the main strong points of Vivaldi.
I will describe that with this map. The lodging buildings are classified into 5 wings;
Being in order from right side of this picture, Cherry- Oak - Pine - Maple - Noblian.
But I will skip 2 of them (Noblian & Pine) because Noblian is only for membership and Pine wing is renovated recently, but the heating type is ondol which is not attractive for foreigners.

Firstly mentioned building is Oak wing, which was completed at 1995.
So, it is considerably old, but it has advantage of wonderful view because its location is higher than any other buildings and faces the ski slopes.  In addition. all sort of convenient facilities are in basement of the Oak wing, and the biggest market in Vivaldi is connected directly with Oak.
Most of all, the distance with ski slope is very short and it help guests move to ski main center easily.
And, this year, Vivaldi resort remodeled the Oak wing. So there is no reason to hesitate to book Oak wing anymore.

Then, let's see more detail.

This place is Oak Famiy Room (for 4 people), which is set up with flatlets.
There are only one bed and some blanket, so just two of members can sleep on the bed and others have to sleep on the floor. This is the biggest disadvantage for foreigner because they are unfamiliar with sleeping on the floor like Korean.

Here is Oak sweet room (for 5 people)  different with Family Room in terms of having a living room and bed room. Because there is few cost gap with Famiy Room , I recommend this Sweet Room to guests excepting a couple.

                                                               Oak Wing
                                                 Interior :        ★★★★☆
                                                View :            ★★★★☆
                                               Accessibility : ★★★★☆
                                                Cost :              ★★★★★
                                                Cleanliness :  ★★★☆☆

                                                        Total : ★★★★☆
Next building is Maple wing. Maple was founded at 2004, relatively new-type. Over all, the interior or facilities are better than those of Oak. Although it doesn't face ski slopes directly, it is also high building and look the ski slopes sideling which can give guests the most beautiful views.
Actually, Maple wing is the most popular among the foreign guests despite of poor accessibility.

This picture is Maple Family Room. The floor is wooden style which has unity with other furnitures. This style looks much more refined than that of Oak.
Although it is just Family Room, it looks extensive because of the interior.

This room is Maple Sweet Room.
Similar with Oak Sweet Room, there is a sofa in living room, and bed is placed at inside of bedroom.
If your group is more than scale of family, this room is recommended strongly. The most prefered room numbers are 33~37 because the view from the rooms is the best.

 Maple Wing

         Interior :        ★★★☆☆
         View :            ★★★☆☆
           Accessibility : ★★☆☆☆
           Cost :              ★★★★☆
          Cleanliness :  ★★★★☆

       Total : ★★★☆☆

Next accommodation type is Cherry wing, the most brand-new building in Vivaldi resort. Naturally, this advantage makes it popular. If the Maple symbolizes 'comfortable' or 'family', Cherry will indicate 'sophisticated' or 'young couple'. Near by Oak, especially, it is closer to ski slope for beginner. Most of points are good, but there are some deadly disadvantages to Cherry; heating system is not good, viewing is bad, and it is only operated in peak season.
In spite of these disadvantages, it is so well known to foreigner and Korean both that it is difficult to make a reservation.
There are two types for Cherry wing; Condo and Hotel. Actually, there are not big differences between them. In condo-type, you can cook by yourself, but you can't do in hotel-type.
Because most of tourists prefer tidy interior, Cherry wing is famous for foreigners.

                                                            Cherry Wing

                                                 Interior :        ★★★★☆
                                                View :            ★★★☆☆
                                               Accessibility : ★★★☆☆
                                                Cost :              ★★★☆☆
                                                Cleanliness :  ★★★★★

                                                        Total : ★★★★☆
I listed the accommodations of Vivaldi resort. As you read, there are variety of acommodations.
Therefore, the number of persons to be admitted is more than any other ski resorts.
Foreigner tourists, especially, can book easily if they visit on weekdays with reasonable price.(It costs only 70000-100000 KRW)
The price tour agencies provide is cheaper than that of other resorts without using social-commerce or membership.

Staying at ski resort is much more efficient & important to take ski lesson and to enjoy skiing.
In this points, Vivaldi Park has strength on winter leisure and for foreign tourists.

SKI TOUR IN KOREA, SKI LESSON FROM JSKI- Accommodations of Alpensia Ski Resort

Do you know where Alpensia resort's name is originated from ?
The origin of the name is Alps of Asia.
I've never been Alps, but I heard that Alps is one of the most beautiful places.

As if Alpensia resort takes it upon the name, its' accommodations are famous for beautiful and tidy exterioir appearance. It seems like a house in real Alps :)

In Alpensia Ski Resort, there are three-kinds of accommodations; Intercontinental Hotel, Holiday-inn Resort and Holiday-inn suite.
All rooms in them are equally fancy and cozy,  but the types of rooms are very different and various.

First. Intercontinental Hotel.
This hotel is one of the most famous hotles which is not only in Alpensia resort, but also in many cities and other countries.

That's why many foreign tourists who come to Alpensia for enjoying their ski trip book this hotel.

Second, Holiday-inn Resort.

In Holiday- inn Resort, there are 5 types of suite rooms specialized for whatever you want.

1. Alps Suite Room
- The space is composed effeciently; living room and bed room become one.

2. Family Suite Room
- It is the most proper room for family

3. Kids Suite Room
- It is sililar with Family Suite Room, but there are more space for kids.

4. Spa Suite Room
- You can enjoy spa with beautiful view of the Alpensia Ski Resort.

5. Terrace Suite Room
- The most suitable room for looking around the view of nature of Korea.

Third. Holiday-inn Suite

Holiday-inn Suite is also popular to tourists for enjoying ski because it is the closest building with ski slopes. Even in this building, there is ski main center where you can rent ski gear and clothes!

So, it is very convenient to stay at here for people who come to Korea for ski tour & ski lesson.

Check In time : 3:00 pm /
Check-out time : 12:00 noon
Non-guaranteed reservations are held until 24 hours prior to the expected arrival time; the hotel has no obligation to secure bookings after that time. To secure a guaranteed all night reservation, the guest must provide an adequate deposit whether in cash or one of the following:
  • An acceptable credit card number
  • A company name, address and telephone number where the company has a signed agreement with IHG to guarantee payment
  • A travel agent ARC/IATA member number with guarantee status
Cancelling your reservation after 6.00 pm on the day of arrival, or failing to show will result in a charge equal to the first night’s stay to your credit card.

SKI TOUR, SKI LESSON IN KOREA - How to get to Alpensia resort from Seoul

Last time, I uploaded the way to go to Alpensia resort from Incheon International Airport.
So this time, I will introduce "How to get to Alpensia ski resort from Seoul" !
More and more foreign traveler who come to Korea for ski trip go to Alpensia ski resort, as I said before, because of Winter Olympic and fablous view.
To come up to their expectation, Alpensia resort is trying to make them come easily.

http://www.purpleskibus.com/?RESORT=AP

First, you can use shuttle bus operated by Alpensia resort.
If you follow this link, you will be able to find the category like this picture.
And click the reservation button.

Then, there is a time table for shuttle bus from seoul to Alpensia ski resort.
The depart locations are very famous places for foreigner tourists and most of them
actually do seoul city trip and stay at there.

Notes
1. Seoul Line (Seoul to Resort)
※ Once the bus has passed its stop point, it will not return.
If you miss the ski tour bus, please come to Sport Complex station, which is the last stop point for the buses.
   (Last bus time is 9AM)
※ You MUST bring the bus ‘BOOKING’ provided by Grace Travel and present it to the ski tour on tour date.
※ You CANNOT purchase a ‘BOOKING’ on the day of departure at Sport Complex station.
2. Return Bus (Alpensia Resort to Seoul)
- Alpensia resort bus arrival and depart bus stop point : Welcome center of the Alpensia Hotel Resort.
- Please take bus returning to Seoul in front of the Welcome Center of the Alpensia Hotel Resort.
- If you have any questions while at the resort, please come to the ski bus desk located at
the welcome center on the 1st floor Lobby.
- For the bus from Alpensia to Seoul, please be on the bus at least 10 minutes before the departure time.
(The bus will be in front of the welcome center and is purpled coloblue. The name of the bus is Daewon Express)
- The bus will have a bus route map posted on the front window.

Second, you can use van service from us JSKI.

From this year, we will provide high quality of van service for our priceless customers.
Using van service is much easier to get to Alpensia resort than taking bus because you can make a reservation for the service when you book the ski lesson from us.
The driver ,of course, will be very kind & patient and can speak English  fluently.
Here is options you can choose to book the van service for going to Alpensia resort.
1. Incheon Airport - Alpensia  :  one way (300,000 KRW) / round trip (540.000 KRW)
2. Seoul - Alpensia  :  one way (270.000 KRW) / round trip (490.000 KRW)

If you make reservation, the driver who are supposed to take you to the ski resort will contact to you.

Third, you can use public transportation.

There is a bus that travels from the eastern Seoul Terminal.
The eastern Seoul Terminal is near the Gangbyun station (Line 2/green line) of the subway to Hoenggye, where Alpensia Resort is located.
After arriving at Hoenggye bus terminal, you should take taxi and come to Alpensia resort.
The cost is not cheaper than that of using shuttle bus, and this way is much more inconvenient than
using van service, so honestly, I don't want to recommend this way :)

Whatever you choose, you won't be regret coming to Alpensia ski resort for your ski tour.
Finally, I will show you our lesson video at Alpensia ski resort.
I hope we can meet and enjoy skiing together like this video !

SKI TOUR in KOREA @ VIVALDI RESORT - Review for comparing Korea & Japan ski resort

You can compare Korea and Japan A to Z like ski slope, ski instructor, and accommodation.

1. GoSnow ski team in Nesieko Hokkaido Japan

“Almost a disaster, thankfully every complaint is assessed seriously”
Reviewed 1 January 2016

To start with, we had an awful experience with our private group lesson for our family of 2 adults and 4 kids aged 8-14. It was our second ski trip after a fantastic experience in Korea the year before, and everyone was full of zest to learn, refresh what we had learnt previously.

The first instructor that was assigned seemed to be just taking it as a job, and was not helpful, nor having any passion in teaching. My 8-year-old had an earful of lecturing from him for not being able to comprehend and execute a task, for the entire 20 minutes (yes, I timed it). Thankfully our boy didn't reduce to tears with so much tension on him then.

The instructor seemed to be on his own mind. It was marginal snow condition and to access the magic carpet, learners are required to take few steps of stairs. There were at least 3-4 occasions that other GoSnow instructors assisted us, and their own charge, to step up; while our own instructor just happily left his group behind and proceeded on his own. We are not asking for help all the time, but a little extra support would be very much appreciated.

Worst of all, when we reached the end of magic carpet, we were greeted with remarks like "How many times do I have to tell you to stick close to the magic carpet so others can have more space?" In a nutshell, it was a horrible 2-hour session that everyone was looking forward to end soon, and a huge relief when it ended!

I wrote an email about our bad experience the next day. Management was apologetic, suggested a replacement class and promised to look into the matter.

We took the replacement class few days later, and everyone had a fun time learning under Elliot, who was patient, professional and very helpful. The Operation &Training manager, Michal, met us despite his busy schedule, and explained that the previous instructor had admitted having some personal issue and was on medical etc.

1 Good + 1Bad experience should equals average, but I am giving the extra star for Michal's effort in making sure the customers are always well taken care off. His dedication is not to be doubted, replying emails at almost midnight on few occasions, making sure we could take the replacement class before our departure, there's a real commitment to his work.

As others have pointed out, GoSnow's training ground looks smallish particularly compared with NISS, which has a much longer and covered magic carpet. As a newer set up, give them some time to prove themselves, my first and second experience with them had shown that they definitely take the business very seriously.

2. JSKI ski school Vivaldi park in South Korea

“We will be back just for skiing again”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 23 December 2014
Just returned from a ski trip at Vivaldi Park with a fantastic experience. Early planning is essential particularly if one wants to enjoy the facility to the fullest.

1. Room booking
With all emphasis on the Cherry room by TA reviewers, I went through all sources to book one, including asking my Korean business counterpart to assist in calling the hotel 2 months before our trip; but was told that booking was not opened yet. Trying to book direct through hotel goes nowhere too, as the reservation in English website did not work and no email address for contact. We ended up booking the Maple Family suite through Expedia. Expedia had shown that they have Cherry rooms but all sold out so try your luck!

2. Transportation
Yes, there is free shuttle bus service if you can book in Korean. I was thinking of asking our Airbnb host to book for us upon our arrival in Seoul, while worrying that the bus seats may be full as we are travelling to Vivaldi on a Sunday. Thankfully I stumbled across the website for independent travelers Funtastic Korea (Funko) http://funtastickorea.com which helped to book the bus service at a nominal fee of 5,000W. Best of all, the booking of shuttle bus is free if one books the ski instructor through Funko, at 200,000W for 2-hour family lesson. Funko has interactive website that is easy to use, and detailed instruction in English of how to get to the bus stop from the subway exit. The bus was indeed full on our day of departure, and our family was probably the only non-Korean in the bus. We took the bus at Gwangwamun stop, returning 3 days later at the bus stop directly opposite the departure stop, returning bus was only half full though.

3. Maple Suite
Do not despair if you don’t get Cherry room, Maple suite was above expectation. I did not feel it’s that aged compared with other TA’s reviews, the kitchenette definitely looks new. The room is clean and spacious even for our family of 2 adults with 4 kids, and came with fridge, kettle, cooking pots and pans, dish washing detergent, kettle and rice/soup cooker but NO toaster. BYO your coffee/tea packs as these are not provided too, and off course BYO large towels and toothbrush/toothpaste. While checking in we requested for the views facing the ski slopes and western room (1 queen bedded room + 1 ondol room), but was told that those facing ski slopes were left with Korean rooms (2 ondol rooms) so we chose the later, the view was awesome! Expedia’s offer for the room at USD120 is really a steal for a ski resort of such standard.

The Korean room came with 5 sets of futons, all newly ironed and crisp, but with only 3 pillows. Guest can request for additional set (3 futons + 3 pillows) at 16,800W, they don’t provide additional pillows only. No wifi in the room too but hubby managed to get wifi at the lobby, presumably through our earlier log in on Twifi in Seoul, while I could not log on so try your luck.

4. The outlets
The main grocery store is opened till 12am, we tried to get some breakfast supply on the first night (Sunday) at 11pm but all cereals were sold out, while the bakery closed at 9.30pm. We managed to get the cereals the next day, but perhaps best to BYO too. On food outlets, we found that the World of Snacks (underneath Starbucks) offered tastiest non-spicy food, try their best seller Bulgogi mushroom rice, kids love that. Even the chicken pop corns and friend chicken at Burger King is quite spicy so be careful for kids.

5. Ski rental and lessons
Funko did the ski instructor booking for us and we were to meet the ski instructor, Jay Lee at Vivaldi’s bus stop waiting area (a built-in tent with heating) but I did not read it properly and waited at the bus stop for 5-10 minutes. Not able to locate the instructor, we then proceeded to Maple hotel, get the hotel to call the instructor and he was there to meet us in 5 minutes.

Jay advised us to send the luggage for keeping and don’t bother checking in as the queue could be quite long when check-in starts at 12pm, but rooms will not be available until 3pm. We were there about 11.45 am with a long line of people checking out. We followed Jay in a van to get our ski clothes and gear, as the rental shop is about 10-15 minutes drive away. There are easily 15-20 rental shops out of Vivaldi, mainly cater for locals thus the rental is much cheaper than the hotel’s. Rental for ski gear (boots + blades) is 20,000W per day, and ski clothes another 20,000W per day. The hotel is charging 34,000W for half day if I remember correctly. We were told to choose our own outfits, and the staff measured our feet for boot size, and asked our height for the poles. We put on the ski clothes and boots at the rental shop.

Jay then took us back to Vivaldi to start our lesson. He started from the very basic; and provided us the helmets too. The lesson was supposed to be for 2 hours but he definitely spent extra hours with us. Jay advised us to buy the ski lift just for one ride before their scheduled maintenance closing time, and brought us to Basic 2 slopes, where we were taught downhill skill in a slightly steeper slope. We had great fun learning and experiencing skiing and told Jay to assist in buying the night ski lift tickets for 6.30-10.30pm, went back to hotel to check-in, had dinner before our night ski again. Prior to the trip, I thought it must be nuts to ski at night, maybe just for adrenalin-rushed youngsters but night ski had its advantage – no tour groups and a lot less crowded, somehow the kids did not feel tired while having fun, we ended the night at 10pm!

We booked Jay for a more advanced lesson the next day, and got him to help buying the ski lift tickets for 12.30pm-10.30pm. It’s a lot cheaper to buy through instructors, on average the discount on ski lift is 38%! The ski lift ticket is RFID imputed, you could return the cards to the ticket office after each usage for 1,000W each. We were supposed to return to Seoul on the third day at 1pm bus, but got Jay to assist in changing the bus time to 5.30pm so we skied again on the third day.

At the end of the trip, all of us except our 7 year-old managed to master the intermediate slop (the Jazz line), which was beyond our own expectation. This could not be possible without a good coach who made skiing so much fun, despite all the falls and the struggles to get up from the falls. During the teaching session Jay did not use the ski poles at all, I later found out that ski poles are only for the flat area and for planting in intermediate/advanced slopes. Thus despite my 7 yo lost 1 pole in the midst of the trip, he was still able to enjoy skiing with just one pole.

Most importantly, having booked Jay earlier saved us lots of time, thus we didn’t run around like a headless chicken not knowing what to do next. All the instructors from Jay’s company, http://www.jski.co.kr are graduates with a PE degree, and are English/Mandarin speakers. Jay himself had worked for an Australian ski resort during summer in Korea. Throughout the lessons Jay (and his team) had been very attentive, patient, genuinely helpful and most importantly we could feel his passion in teaching, highly recommended. He is reachable on what’s app too, a plus point.

Jski were indeed the savior of our trip, we ended booking for Trickeye Museum (at 11,000W it’s the cheapest I can find), and Everland (group booking of 6 or more is cheaper than Everland’s current promotion of 30% off).
